MDC Cares

Mobilizing Hope

The Full Story

MDC Cares is the charitable division of MDC Homes that was created to offer our support to members of several communities.

MDC Cares is dedicated to helping to provide improvements

for children, veterans, and individuals requiring special accommodations for mobility in their homes.

There are multiple groups and foundations that the MDC Team holds very dear. Read the stories below to learn more about why these groups are a focal point for us and why MDC Cares is so important.

The Jordan Thomas Foundation (JTF) is a special place for Matthew & Alexis Cole. Their daughter, Chloe, was born missing her right leg above the knee, but if you know Chloe, this has never stopped her. Chloe has been a JTF Kid since she was 2 years old and thanks to JTF, she has a specialized leg that allows me to run, jump, and play just like other kids.

Many don’t realize that insurance companies do not provide for limb loss which puts a huge burden
on the family. Prosthetics for children need to be replaced every 18-24 months and a single
prosthesis can cost up to $50,000.

JTF is like a family and all the kids get together throughout the year to attend fun events, like the
Family Reunion and Golf Tournament.

LaNita has been crocheting for over 30 years and has made countless blankets for her children, family members and her children’s friends as well as their siblings. When she ran out of people she knew, LaNita started donating blankets to various homeless shelters, domestic shelters, and children’s organizations in Illinois.

Moving to Ooltewah several years ago, LaNita discovered Project Linus which provides blankets of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Project Linus is currently collecting blankets to send to a veteran's organization for children who have lost parents. They have also partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Chattanooga Fire Department, and Family Promise, to provide blankets.
If you would like to volunteer to make blankets or donate, contact

But MDC Cares doesn’t only want to help children but would like to help those with a limb loss that have served our country. Lead Project Manager Tracy served in the Air Force; Assistant Project Manager, Damon is in the Navy reserves. LaNita’s husband served in the Marine Corps and her son is currently in the Marines.
